San Juan makes board appointments, removes members and reports executive‑session outcomes

During its Feb. 11 special meeting, the San Juan City Commission handled multiple appointments and announced the results of an executive session that addressed litigation, an ordinance amendment and personnel matters.

Under appointments, the commission considered representative and alternate appointments to the Milos del Valle board for FY2025–26 and confirmed existing representation noting schedule conflicts. The council then accepted an application packet for the Miss San Juan pageant board after one member resigned; the commission initially appointed Daniel Garza to an unexpired term. Later in the meeting, after executive session, the commission moved to rescind that earlier appointment (transcript name variants appear as "Daniel Gus"/"Daniel Garza") and subsequently appointed Miriam Cavazos to the Miss San Juan pageant board.

Staff also reported multiple resignations and attendance‑related removals from the Keep San Juan Beautiful board; the commission appointed two members to fill two of the vacancies and said it would return in a future meeting to fill remaining seats.

The commission convened an executive session under Texas Government Code Chapter 551 (cited sections 551.071 and 551.074) to consult with attorneys on pending litigation (Ruben Maurin v. City of San Juan, in Hidalgo County) and to discuss updates to agreements and personnel matters including the director of utilities. After reconvening, commissioners announced a series of motions "as discussed in executive session," and they recorded votes indicating those motions carried.
