The Ware County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 9 to commit $300,000 and two acres of county land to the construction of Georgia State Patrol Post 22. Commissioners discussed relocating the post from an earlier proposed corner on US 1 to a county site behind a power-line easement and confirmed the county would deed the two acres to the state as part of the commitment.
A commissioner summarized the motion: "The amount that I believe we proposed was 300,000 is what the county is gonna commit to and the 2 acres of land," and the commission moved, seconded and approved the funding and land commitment. Staff said the state currently owns an existing patrol building and that deed arrangements would transition ownerships as portions of the project are completed; language discussed would return old property to the county or allow deed transfers to a local development authority for marketing if the state relocates.
Commissioners also noted this commitment had been discussed since about 2016 and described the funding as part of a broader SPLOST/capital planning conversation. Staff said they would send a letter signed by the chairman to the county's representative in the state legislature to confirm local support for the project.
