At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Lincoln County Schools Board of Education heard superintendent Dr. Allen highlight the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) results and preview upcoming programs, and recognized multiple student award winners.
Dr. Allen said that in 2024–25 Lincoln County Schools students earned 2,737 CTE credentials and that 1,382 students were CTE concentrators across more than 39 pathways. The district recorded 150 students participating in job-shadowing and 114 internships last year. He noted upcoming CTE experiences including the Be Pro Be Proud traveling bus, career-on-wheels events for fourth and seventh graders, manufacturing tours, a Future Ready Expo, and summer camps at the School of Tech in June.
Dr. Allen also acknowledged school counselors for School Counselor Appreciation Week, recognized bus drivers during Love the Bus Month, announced kindergarten registration opens online Feb. 18, and said Public School Appreciation Week will be observed Feb. 23–27 across the district.
The board recognized a Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest winner from North Lincoln High School (Amy), with an essay on Deborah Sampson advancing to state-level judging. A coalition of churches presented Martin Luther King Jr. essay winners and thanked participating families. The board also highlighted Saint James Elementary’s Kids Hope mentor program (21 volunteers providing about 21 hours of one-on-one mentoring weekly), East Lincoln Middle’s student enterprise 'Just Winging It,' and East Lincoln High’s Student Life Lighthouse Team.
Two seniors were featured in a "Senior Spotlight." Abigail Alvarez (East Lincoln High School) described her involvement in band and school activities and said Lincoln County Schools provided mentors and opportunities that shaped her plans to study music education after graduation. Carter King (East Lincoln High School) spoke about extracurricular leadership, including serving as varsity soccer captain and participating in a state soccer championship; he said he plans to attend UNC Chapel Hill and study accounting and finance.
The recognitions portion concluded before the board moved into action items.
