KSDE to use Power BI dashboards for child nutrition; USDA grant funds Logicalis implementation

Cheney added the project is funded through a USDA non‑competitive technology innovation grant and is intended to modernize the agency’s CANClaim system and make summer meal site information mobile‑friendly and real‑time for families.
Why it matters: KSDE said the work will replace manual map updates and Excel‑based reporting with automated visualizations, speed up district reporting and permit more timely technical assistance to program operators. The initial use case is child nutrition, but IT staff said the platform could be expanded to other agency reporting needs.
Procurement and privacy: Board members asked whether Logicalis would host data off‑site and whether student information could leave KSDE servers. Kurtenbach said Logicalis’s role is implementation only and KSDE will keep the data on its systems. The presenters said the contract and grant terms require detailed deliverables and a security plan.
