Boone County board reappoints Dr. Jones as health officer; elects officers

The Boone County Board of Health on Jan. 21 voted to appoint Dr. Jones as the county’s health officer for a new four-year term and re-elected its leadership.

The board chair opened the meeting by clarifying that Dr. Jones will begin a new full term rather than merely finishing the previous officeholder’s term. A board member moved to appoint Dr. Jones to a four-year term; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

Why it matters: The health officer leads public-health operations and policy implementation at the local level; the appointment formalizes Dr. Jones’s authority heading into the department’s 2026 plans and budget cycle.

In the same session members nominated and confirmed the board chair to continue in that role and named Michael as vice president. The votes were taken by voice and passed without recorded opposition.

Board members also formally welcomed Mindy as the new health administrator and director of nursing. Mindy will oversee nursing operations and administrative matters; the meeting record shows she later presented the department’s staffing and budget overview.
