Superintendent: high-school construction on track; traffic study and ribbon-cutting forthcoming

At the Jan. 27 meeting, the superintendent provided an update on the district’s multi-phase construction work and near-term milestones.

The superintendent said plumbing approvals are complete and foundation work on the south end is underway. Contractors showed strong interest at a recent pre-bid meeting for the high-school scope, and the district expects to have bid numbers by the next board meeting or may call a special meeting in March to keep the schedule. “We should have numbers coming here by the next board meeting and probably for Google. If not, we may have to have a special meeting, in probably March,” the superintendent said.

The board heard the construction schedule will phase work to limit disruption: one summer will focus on the gymnasium and performing-arts areas, another on classroom wings, with HVAC and flooring upgrades staged to avoid interrupting core academic spaces. The superintendent also described planned parking-lot milling and new lighting and said separating bus and parent circulation could yield roughly 100 additional parking spaces by reallocating bus staging.

A traffic study for the high school is pending; the superintendent said the study will guide placement of bus access, student and family drop-off zones and potential one-way flows coordinated with the city and engineers. The superintendent also announced a ribbon-cutting for the operation center on Feb. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

The administration agreed to post project maps and renderings publicly as they become available and to provide ongoing progress information to the community.
