Prince Edward County staff will apply to the Tobacco Commission FY26 Southern Virginia program for funding to complete pad-preparation work at the Prince Edward Business Park. Economic development director Chelsea White summarized the Timmons Group cost estimate and said the application deadline required a board resolution in order to apply.
White said the packet lists a project total of $5,983,000 and that the Tobacco Commission program requires a 1:1 local match. She noted the board would have final authority to accept any awarded grant and that the resolution under consideration authorizes staff to submit the application only; it is not a commitment to provide county matching funds if the grant is awarded. The board voted to adopt the resolution to apply.
Supervisor Gillum and others suggested a second opinion on numbers; Timmons personnel were on the call to answer technical questions about mobilization and other line items. Staff noted the bid day numbers will determine final cost if the county pursues the project.
