The San Francisco Commission on the Environment on Feb. 4 adopted a resolution asking the mayor and Board of Supervisors to restore $3.4 million to the department to preserve climate, clean‑transportation and outreach capacity.
President Mike Sullivan said the request is intended to restore the capacity threatened by the proposed budget reductions discussed earlier in the meeting. Commissioner Ryals moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Yuan seconded, and the motion passed by roll call among commissioners present.
Public comment included a speaker who noted that funding technically has not yet been cut and urged commissioners to press for preservation of resources. Commissioners said the resolution is meant as a policy statement and advocacy tool to accompany the commission’s earlier vote not to approve the budget.
Staff said they will include the commission’s actions and recorded votes in the transmittal to the mayor’s office as the administrative budget process continues.
