Austin Memorial Library wins $46,000 state grant for private interview and telehealth space

Mary Cone, representing Austin Memorial Library, told the board the library received a $46,000 grant from the Texas State Library and is in the early stages of implementing the project. The grant will fund construction of one wall and the purchase of 20 laptop computers to equip a room set aside for job interviews, telehealth visits, privacy for banking, and proctored testing.
"We just found out last week we were awarded the grant. It is basically to build 1 wall, 20 laptop computers, and that room will be designated for job interviews, people that need to do telehealth visits, and or if they're banking information that they need privacy or that there is somebody that needs to take a proctor test for an exam," Mary Cone said.
Cone thanked the city for recent paint work at the library and said the library is beginning planning and procurement for the grant-funded improvements. No specific contractor or implementation timeline was provided during the meeting.
Next steps: Library staff will begin planning and procurement for the room build-out and equipment purchase and will provide updates as the work progresses.
