Broussard council authorizes land exchange with Como Planning LLC to consolidate road interests

The Broussard City Council on Feb. 10 approved Resolution No. 876‑26 authorizing an active land exchange with Como Planning LLC along West Fairfield Drive. Gerald (city staff) explained that rerouting West Fairfield left a 0.9‑acre long, narrow sliver cut off from the remainder of the city’s property. Under the agreement, the city will abandon the servitude on the portion of road no longer used and transfer that 0.9‑acre piece to Como Planning LLC. In exchange, Como will convey fee interest in about 6.2 acres of the remaining Fairfield Road bottom to the city, converting the city’s interest from a servitude to full ownership.
Gerald told council the terms were negotiated and in order; the resolution authorizes the mayor to execute the exchange. Council members voted to approve the motion. City staff said the transfer is intended to promote development of the sliver and produce future revenues for the city while consolidating ownership of roadbed where the city currently holds only servitude rights.
