Public commenters press board on administrator contract changes and athletic participation contracts

During the delegations portion of the meeting, public commenters raised two distinct concerns that the board said would be followed up on.

Kim Rush reviewed administrator contract records and said an addendum — which she characterized as an amendment — raised the employer annuity contribution in an administrator contract from 3% to 8% and showed multiple overlapping contract dates. "This amendment has now changed that to 8%," Kim Rush said, and asked the board to clarify contract dates and the rationale for the changes.

Separately, Rachel Horniak asked the board to review athletic-department contracts she said require students to sign agreements forcing them to choose a "primary" sport, and she said coaches have discouraged students who want to participate in multiple activities. Horniak urged the athletic department to ensure award nominations (MVP, all-conference) are based on staff evaluations rather than parent or other influence and asked for equal opportunity for students who participate in multiple activities.

The board did not provide a substantive response to either request during the three-minute public-comment period; the chair and superintendent said questions and follow-ups can be addressed by email or individual meetings. Those requests are listed as items the board will follow up on after the meeting.
