Parks & Rec reports Norman Studios phase complete, Blue Cypress expansion and high visitation at Friendship lights

Daryl Joseph of Parks & Recreation updated the District 1 town hall on several recreation projects. He said the first phase of work at Norman Studios is complete and the department is in design for a second floor, with construction activity anticipated in 2026. At Blue Cypress Park the department is continuing work and plans to add a golf clubhouse in partnership with James Madison University; part of the facility will be available for public use.
Joseph highlighted weekly community programming now active under the I‑95 underpass and at Blue Cypress (yoga, pilates, dance) and promoted nightly synchronized lights and music (Friendship lights) that run in the evening. He reported that Friendship saw over 600,000 visitors in its first year after reopening and encouraged residents to use free weekly events at the Blue Cypress Community Center.
He closed by saying staff would remain after the meeting to answer questions and to coordinate further follow‑up on park improvements and scheduling.
