City confirms receipt of attorney general subpoena; OGC to coordinate response

During the Feb. 10 council meeting, the Office of General Counsel confirmed acceptance of a subpoena from the Florida Attorney General and told council members it would work with the administration to produce responsive documents.
Council member Diamond asked whether outside counsel would be engaged; OGC said it saw no need for outside counsel at this point and that responsive documents would be provided to the administration and distributed as appropriate. Diamond requested that OGC notify council when a response is filed and make documents available to council members as appropriate so elected officials can review the material.
OGC noted many subpoenaed materials are public records but that usual statutory exceptions may apply. The exchange was brief and procedural: OGC said it had accepted service earlier in the week and had been coordinating with administration staff to comply.
What’s next: OGC will file the official response and work with legislative services on distribution; council members asked to be notified when materials are filed so they can review documents that might be of public interest.
