The committee told the commission the building would be offered to the county for $1,350,000 in cash. “We’re gonna make an offer of 1,350,000.00 for that building,” a committee member said, and the group recommended the purchase to avoid ongoing rent and relocation risks.
Committee members cited tradeoffs: the Atlanta Highway building is about 18,000 square feet—slightly smaller than originally hoped—but buying would avoid future rent payments and offer long-term stability. The committee estimated renovation costs in the range of $150 to $200 per square foot and said owning the building would likely save money versus new construction or long-term leasing.
A lease option on Bell Road remained an active alternative, with lower upfront cost but continued rent exposure and forthcoming build-out negotiations. The committee said the purchase recommendation would return to the commission for formal consideration at a subsequent meeting.
The commission treated the discussion as informational; no formal purchase vote occurred during the information session. Staff said they would present the committee’s recommendation and supporting cost estimates for formal action at the next meeting.
