Council approves amendment to missing-persons bill to eliminate waiting period

The Prince George’s County Council on Feb. 10 approved an amendment to CBO 2-20-26 — titled in discussion as Dakar Rose’s law — to codify that county agencies shall promptly accept missing-person reports and that the health department will lead an educational campaign focused on missing persons, including targeted outreach to Black women and girls.
Council Member Fisher, sponsor of the clarification, explained the amendment would "codify the fact that we take missing persons reports right away" and would shift the educational component to the health department because it is better equipped to run that campaign. The amendment text and explanation were included in council members' emailed materials before the meeting.
The motion to include Amendment Number 1 was moved by Council Member Blaguet and seconded by Vice Chair Olsen. A roll-call vote was taken and recorded as "Motion carries 11 0." The item will proceed to the Health, Human Services and Public Safety (HHSPS) committee for further consideration.
Next steps: The amended draft will be transmitted to HHSPS for committee review as part of the council’s legislative process.
