The Newport City Council confirmed two fire-department appointments Jan. 27 after conducting candidate interviews in executive session under the authority of 1 V.S.A. 313(a)(3).
After returning to public session, a council member moved to retain Jeff Young as an administrative firefighter and authorized the mayor to sign appointment documentation; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. A second motion to appoint Kevin Lacoste to a department role was likewise moved, seconded and approved.
The mayor congratulated both appointees and noted the appointments followed standard interview and executive-session procedures.
