Summary
The board approved a multi-item consent agenda including a $550,000 transfer for a parish-wide HVAC and controls assessment, a $225,000 hand-dryer installation phase for about 10 schools, and multiple resolutions proclaiming Black History Month, SRO Appreciation Day and National School Counseling Week.
The Lafayette Parish School Board approved a multi-item consent agenda Tuesday that included funding transfers, facility projects and several ceremonial resolutions.
Among the fiscal and facilities items approved, the board agreed to transfer $550,000 from the capital improvement fund to the general fund to pay for a parish-wide HVAC and controls assessment contract. A separate construction manager-at-risk contract was discussed for wing additions at Westside and Milton; board members clarified the Milton work is for an auxiliary gym rather than a wing addition.
The board also approved spending $225,000 from the self-funded construction contingency for initial hand-dryer installations at roughly 10 schools, to be phased parish-wide later. A district representative said the first set of schools were selected because they currently use the most paper towels and that installations will require electrical work and likely occur over the summer.
On personnel and benefits, the board approved a resolution directing the superintendent to amend the medical and pharmacy plan document to mirror prior coverage after a third-party administrator change so that employees do not face increased costs.
The board read and adopted several resolutions: declaring February 2026 as Black History Month in Lafayette Parish; proclaiming 02/12/2026 as School Resource Officer Appreciation Day (citing the National Association of School Resource Officers and the SRO triad model); and designating National School Counseling Week. The board also approved a school board member training resolution recognizing that listed members met or exceeded the six-hour training requirement and an annual one-hour ethics training requirement.
The consent agenda and the pulled training resolution were approved by voice votes. Board members posed clarifying questions before votes and later gathered for a group photo after distribution of certificates.
Separately, the board recognized middle school athletic achievements: Bristol Middle School's girls' basketball team finished 17–1 overall and 14–0 in parish play, and Broussard Middle's boys' team completed a 26–2 season while repeating as parish champions.
