Livermore Council honors 'Super Readers' after summer program with more than 5,500 participants

The Livermore City Council opened its Sept. 8 pre‑meeting by celebrating the conclusion of the library’s summer reading program. Library Services Director Anewan Baker presented the 'Super Readers' and thanked sponsors for supporting the program.
Baker reported participation numbers: "This year, nearly 5,600 residents participated and 1,132 children completed the program to earn the title of super reader. Together, our community read more than 6,300,000 this summer," and introduced Assistant Library Director Nathan Brumley, who led a ceremony calling dozens of named children to the front to receive recognition and cards.
Mayor Marchand and council members joined library staff in congratulating the program participants and encouraged residents to sign up for library cards during the proclaimed Library Card Sign-Up Month. The mayor then closed the ceremony and the council moved into closed session later in the agenda.
What’s next: the city will continue to support library programs and outreach; staff noted organizers will tally final participation metrics for the year.
