The coroner presented the office’s January report and compared key counts with 2024.
Speaker 5 read the coroner’s figures: January had 58 total deaths, of which 49 were natural, two were fire deaths in Cedarville and seven remained pending. He provided year-over-year comparisons: 'medical' deaths were reported as 263 in 2024 and 288 in 2025; coroner-signed deaths were given as 248 (2025) with a different coroner-signed figure referenced for 2024. Natural deaths were listed as 511 in 2024 and 485 in 2025. Accidental deaths declined from 30 (2024) to 17 (2025), and suicides were listed as nine in 2024 and two in 2025. Undetermined deaths were two in both years.
The presenter noted these numbers in response to a previous request from the board and provided the statistics for the record. No further action or policy steps were proposed during the meeting on the basis of the report.
The board thanked the coroner and moved on to subsequent agenda items.
