An unnamed meeting participant told the Meigs County Commission that a drainage failure on Long Circle Valley Circle — a county-maintained road — is causing standing water on adjacent private property and water to flow beneath a manufactured home.
"I documented a drainage failure at Long Circle Valley Circle, a county maintained road resulting in water overcopping the roadway, standing water on the adjacent private property, and water flowing beneath the manufactured home," the speaker said, urging the commission to "direct the highway department to restore property drainage." The speaker said the homeowner contacted the highway department, the county manager's office and district commissioners without corrective action.
The commenter warned that continued erosion beneath the manufactured-home supports could create county liability if the soil around the piers erodes and the structure is damaged. The speaker said photographs and a map were provided to the commission and offered to share higher-quality images by email.
Commissioners did not take a vote at the meeting. The speaker asked the commission to pass a motion asking highway staff to inspect and address the drainage "in a reasonable amount of time," and noted prior conversations with the highway supervisor and a request to nudge staff to act before winter or heavy rains worsened the problem.
What happens next: The speaker asked commissioners to consider a motion directing the highway department to investigate and repair the drainage problem; commissioners indicated they would discuss the item further and consider action at a future meeting.
