Stephenson County nursing center reports census rise to 78 and staffing improvements

Stephenson County oversight members were told at their meeting that the county nursing center’s census has increased to 78 residents, including 16 receiving skilled care. Committee members heard that admissions and discharges are being managed more efficiently and that recent outreach and referral efforts contributed to the increase.
The facility’s representative said the center has hired a new assistant director of nursing to support Miss Annette and has named Tanya as the new business office manager. The representative reported pay increases for certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses, the return of PRN nurses and a drop to a minimal level of agency staffing. Staff have also received additional training to care for residents with tracheostomies and to provide peritoneal dialysis, and the facility is preparing for its annual survey.
A committee member asked whether the raises were covered by a collective bargaining agreement; the representative replied that the raises were made outside the union contract. The committee member also noted the management agreement’s expectation that staffing and agency-use reports be provided in the meeting packet; the committee requested that the facility include a written report in future packets so oversight members can review staffing trends before meetings.
No formal policy change or funding action was taken at the meeting. The committee thanked facility staff for the improvements and closed the report portion of the meeting.
