Board approves resignations, staffing extensions and coaching contracts

The New York City School District Board of Education approved a package of personnel items during its Feb. 10 meeting, including resignations, supplemental contracts and substitute lists.

The board approved items 5.1–5.8 on a roll call vote after the superintendent presented personnel recommendations. The items included two resignations (Julie Badovic and Jill Lieber), an extension of up to 15 additional days for an employee identified as Sean Collins to meet caseload needs, a home-instruction tutor agreement for Shelly Fannin, a robotics stipend for Adam Lieutenanter, and supplemental coaching and volunteer assignments for winter and spring sports.

During discussion staff said some positions reflect long tenure and retirements; administrators said they are using attrition where possible as part of a multiyear approach to reduce personnel costs while trying to avoid involuntary layoffs. Roll-call votes recorded affirmative responses from board members present (Mr. Gonzales, Mr. Norris, Mrs. Burkett, Mrs. Crawford and Mr. Ritzenthaler).
