Laguna Beach Unified Board names Dr. Jason E. Glass superintendent, approves contract

The Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education announced that it has appointed Dr. Jason E. Glass as superintendent, effective July 1, 2025, and voted to approve his employment contract.

Board President Dee Perry reported that the board had appointed Glass and that the formal contract would be acted on later in the meeting. The contract presented to the board sets an annual salary of $435,000, provides a $10,000 longevity payment after four years, 24 annual vacation days, and a one‑time relocation reimbursement of up to $30,000. The agreement also authorizes reimbursement for temporary Laguna Beach housing at up to $10,000 per month for no more than six months and funds a mentor contract not to exceed $7,500.

The appointment followed a closed‑session decision the board reported as taken by a 4‑0 vote of those present. In open session the board moved, seconded and approved the employment contract by voice vote; members indicated assent with audible “aye” votes.

The board and several public commenters also acknowledged the pending departure of Acting Superintendent Jeff Dixon, who has accepted a position at Newport Mesa Unified School District. Community members and union representatives offered public thanks to Dixon for his service during the transition.

The contract contains additional administrative provisions read into the record: eligibility for a one‑month sabbatical (subject to prior board approval) during the 2026–27 school year and standard benefit provisions consistent with district employees. The board posted agenda materials and staff said the contract complies with Government Code section 54953(c)(3) for reporting the terms of a public‑employee contract.

Next steps: Dr. Glass’s employment becomes effective July 1, 2025, and the board will complete routine onboarding and any related administrative actions during the summer.
