Supporters of fewer regular sessions argued it creates time to deliberate outside voting sessions and reduces meeting load, while opponents warned that compressing meetings could force votes with inadequate public input or force lengthy single-night agendas. Several members recommended forming a finance standing committee or task force to lead budget planning earlier in the year and to propose a more staged budget hearing process so the council is not pressured into last-minute decisions.
Public commenters recommended restoring a two-meeting-per-month cadence and using committees, consent agendas and time limits to make meetings more efficient while preserving public participation. The chair asked staff to draft a formal calendar for December consideration and to consult with the mayor's office and controller about budget timing and the proposed finance committee.
