Generali School reports midyear gains in attendance, literacy and math

Generali School's leadership told the Waterbury Board of Education at a workshop meeting that the school is seeing measurable midyear academic and attendance gains.
"I am Kristen Coppersite, principal of Generali School," Coppersite said as she introduced the school's team and presented data packets to board members. She highlighted a marked reduction in absenteeism and attributed the change to daily parent contact and schoolwide incentive programs.
Miss Foster presented midyear diagnostics, saying literacy performance at or above benchmark rose district comparisons from 39% at the start of the year to 45% overall at midyear, a 6 percentage point gain, and that K'2 students showed stronger growth (midyear rates cited near 57'58%). For math, the midyear diagnostic showed students reached roughly 60% of expected annual growth versus 47% at the same point last year, and about 24% of students had already achieved a full year's growth by midyear.
School social worker Miss Pellegrino outlined the Behave program, built on four pillars ' be helpful, be safe, be kind and be respectful ' which the school uses to reinforce positive behavior. Pellegrino said the initiative has produced measurable engagement through monthly "behave" tickets and has supported family engagement events, including a family fun night and a 100th-day celebration.
Board members commended staff and students for the reported progress; no formal vote was required for the presentation. The Generali team provided packets and slides to the board for follow-up review.
The school's leaders said efforts will continue through targeted instruction, curriculum coaching and family outreach as they seek to sustain gains into the spring and end-of-year assessments.
