Council recognizes downtown YMCA centennial and honors local residents

The council passed a resolution recognizing the downtown Shreveport YMCA of Northwest Louisiana for 100 years of service, noting the building at 400 McNeil Street, its 1923 fundraising and its place on the National Register of Historic Places (added in 1982). A YMCA representative accepted the resolution and thanked the council.
Separately, the council adopted a resolution honoring Wayon (Wayan) Hector Jr. for outstanding academic achievement, athletic success and community service. Council members praised the student’s high grade-point average and competitive athletic record and invited the family to the podium for remarks and a photo.
The council also approved a resolution recognizing Mary G. Harris on her 90th birthday and commending her contributions to the MLK community. All recognition items were moved and seconded and recorded as adopted.
