Jury renews six‑month moratorium on certain subdivision lot sales as regulations are rewritten
Summary
The DeSoto Parish jury approved a six‑month moratorium renewing language that prohibits developers from selling lots without clear title or required improvements until subdivision regulations are rewritten; the moratorium requires developers to complete improvements or post a bond before selling lots.

The jury voted to reimplement a six‑month moratorium, renewing language previously adopted earlier this year, that prevents developers from selling lots in new subdivisions unless clear title and all required improvements are in place or a bond is posted. The moratorium amends Part 3 (sections D‑1, D‑2 and D‑4 referenced) of the DeSoto Parish subdivision regulations to revoke a clause that previously allowed limited sales before completion.
Staff said the moratorium is intended as a temporary measure while the parish completes a permanent rewrite of subdivision regulations. The motion passed without prolonged debate.
What jurors will do next: Staff will continue work on rewriting the subdivision regulations and return with a permanent alternative to replace the moratorium when ready.
