Crescent City proclaims April as Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness months

Crescent City’s council formally recognized April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and declared support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month during its regular meeting. Mayor Altman read both proclamations, which urged residents to support local organizations that serve children and survivors.
Rebecca Green of the county health and human services accepted the child-abuse-prevention proclamation on behalf of partner groups and invited council members and the public to a candlelight vigil on April 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the FRC. “We would, or as CAPC, we would like to invite you guys to our candlelight vigil,” she said.
Ashley Dalbeck, a crisis advocate with the North Coast **** crisis team, thanked the council for its ongoing support of survivors and described the organization’s services. “For over 50 years, we have been providing free confidential services, which include our 24 hour bilingual crisis line, advocacy during exams, help navigating the justice system, crisis counseling, and financial assistance,” Dalbeck said, noting the group supported more than 900 survivors across Humboldt and Del Norte counties last year.
The proclamations listed local partners by name and asked the community to back prevention and response efforts. The council made no formal decisions tied to the proclamations beyond adopting the documents into the record.
