Madison Board recognizes staff, highlights student achievement and health center planning

Bayati said Newton often "goes above and beyond to make sure that our students ... are cared for and helped and supported." The board presented Newton with a certificate and a $50 gift card.
Administrators reported that fourth-grader Graham Miller represented the district in the Lake County spelling bee, and the board congratulated him for his performance. District staff also updated the board on progress toward establishing a school-based health center and said a draft business plan is due next month.
Staff reported completion of CPI (crisis prevention and intervention) training for teachers and administrators to better de-escalate students in crisis. The superintendent and administrators thanked donors who provided weighted blankets and other supplies for occupational therapy and student support.
These presentations were part of a broader meeting that included budget and personnel actions and a lengthy discussion of the district's reduction plan.
