School committee approves FY27 budget and town-meeting articles for safety upgrades and MSBA feasibility study

The Falmouth School Committee voted on several fiscal and town-meeting items on Feb. 24, approving the fiscal 2027 budget and advancing three separate articles for the April town meeting.
A member moved to approve the proposed fiscal-year 2027 budget; after verbal clarification on the dollar figure presented to the committee, members conducted a roll call and approved the budget. Committee members expressed appreciation for provided spreadsheets and financial materials.
The committee also approved an article to request $250,000 at town meeting for capital improvements to enhance school safety. The proposal described roughly $150,000 for locking hardware on connecting classroom doors and about $100,000 for additional security cameras (the administration estimated adding about 40 cameras across elementary schools). Committee members discussed fire-safety exceptions and installation details before voting to place the article on the warrant.
Separately, the committee approved moving forward with a $2,000,000 article to fund the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) feasibility phase for a renovation project. The feasibility funding would cover hiring an owner’s project manager and architect, conducting schematic designs, updating enrollment studies, and negotiating a reimbursement arrangement with the MSBA.
An overnight trip for four DECA students to attend a state competition March 12–14 was also approved by motion and roll call.
All motions were seconded and advanced by roll call; the meeting record shows affirmative votes for the motions, and committee members asked that warrant-language punctuation and wording be checked before final submission to town staff.
The committee scheduled follow-ups and noted that some capital requests (security cameras and door hardware) will be revisited as part of staged investments and further assessment.
