She urged the board to be aware of heightened community concerns in Sandston and Highland Springs and said she has ‘‘serious concerns’’ about potential noise pollution, erosion of environmental quality and diminished air purity affecting students and neighborhood residents.
Chair Marcy Shea thanked Atkins for bringing the issue forward and clarified land‑use authority: the school board does not vote on the application; the matter will be considered by the Board of Supervisors. No technical analyses or staff reports about noise, air quality or environmental impacts were presented during the meeting and Atkins did not cite a specific vendor or company name during her statement.
Atkins framed her remarks as a community protection concern, saying the board’s primary responsibility is the health and safety of students and staff.
