Highland Springs teacher credits extra funding for sharp gains in math SOL pass rates

He said that 138 Algebra I students who had not passed previously were supported and that 76% of those passed this year after extra funding, tutoring and coaching. He described a group of 147 students who had never passed any middle‑school math SOL, of whom 62% passed Algebra I this year.
“These results represent an exhaustive level of effort and hard work from both students and staff,” Gide said, and he urged continued support so gains would be sustained for incoming cohorts. Gide offered a short handout to the board summarizing the results and the supports that contributed to the improvements.
Board members did not take immediate action in response to the public comment but received the information as a data point tied to recent division investments in tutoring and teacher coaches.
