Sheridan County airport manager says SkyWest will add temporary flights during Gillette runway closure

Robert Dale, Sheridan County Airport Manager, told county staff that SkyWest Airlines has discussed adding a temporary flight to Sheridan while Gillette's main runway is closed in April and May.
"They're gonna start bringing in another flight for us," Dale said, adding that the service would be "at risk" and would not be part of the state contract. He said the carrier plans to run the extra flight for about 45 days, with the additional flights likely to arrive after the current afternoon flight and turn back to Denver. Exact dates and times had not been finalized.
Dale said the flights would bring additional capacity "with no costs or additional impacts on us other than it will just be more capacity." He said the county will monitor booking curves and passenger demand during the temporary schedule and hopes strong performance could extend additional service into the summer season.
Commissioner Jennings asked whether there was concern about ridership dropping after the temporary window ends. Dale said he will watch booking trends and hopes that, if the flights fill, the added capacity could segue into a more sustained schedule.
No formal action was required; Dale said the county will continue conversations with SkyWest and report back when firm dates and flight times are confirmed.
