Sheridan County airport manager reports two bids for hangar conversion, board approves refilling maintenance role

Robert Taylor, Sheridan County Airport Manager, told the county’s commissioners on Nov. 10 that two bids were opened for conversion of Building No. 5 — a former FedEx facility. "Odell came in about a little over 225,000. Axbild was at, a little over a 175,000," Taylor said, and added both amounts "fit within the airport's budget." He said a notice of award would be forthcoming.
Taylor also addressed operational concerns about possible flight cancellations tied to the federal government shutdown, saying as of the latest update there were no canceled flights through the next update period. "As of right now, we have not seen any canceled flights," he told the commissioners.
Taylor reported staff changes at the airport: a maintenance technician submitted a two‑week resignation. He asked the board to authorize recruitment to refill the role ahead of winter, citing increased snow‑removal demands. A commissioner moved to allow the vacancy to be advertised and filled; another seconded the motion. The board voted by voice and the motion passed.
Taylor asked for recommendations for leasing‑committee membership and said he had contacted Bruce Garber; Commissioner Jim mentioned a local pilot, Jeff Freeman, as a potential candidate who "utilized the airport quite a bit." Taylor said he would follow up on suggestions and coordinate next steps.
The board did not take further policy action on airport budgeting during the meeting; Taylor said he would return with an award recommendation for the building conversion.
