Sheridan County Treasurer Katie Ayers told commissioners that two specialty license plates — a rodeo plate and a search‑and‑rescue plate — will be available to county residents beginning Jan. 2.
Ayers said both plates may be applied for through the treasurer’s office, the state online portal, or by paper application. She described costs and distribution: the rodeo plate carries a one‑time $30 special plate fee and applicants may donate $20 or more when renewing; those donations are forwarded to the state treasurer and distributed evenly between the University of Wyoming and Wyoming Community College to support rodeo programs. The search‑and‑rescue plate carries regular registration plus a first‑year $180 application fee and a $50 annual fee thereafter; portions of those fees go to a state fund for search and rescue activities.
Ayers brought sample plates for board members to view and noted the county maintains a small inventory of specialty plates for in‑person issuance. She said the plates do not include county numbers and that lower plate numbers in the county inventory are limited.
