Shenandoah County schools ask supervisors to appropriate $1.1 million in late-arriving state funds

"We are requesting the appropriation for last fiscal year in the amount of 1,100,000.0 for state funds that we received," Caitlin Campbell, director of finance for Shenandoah County Public Schools, told the board. Campbell said the revised state budget was finalized in late April and signed in early May, and the school board acted May 8 to accept the funds; the county-level appropriation is required by code before spending can proceed.
The board did not take action on the appropriation tonight. Campbell said the timing of the state budget and the district's enrollment submission meant the funds were not available at the time the school budget was finalized. Board members had no substantive objections during a short question-and-answer period and thanked Campbell for the presentation.
Campbell said she was available for questions and that the appropriation would proceed through the county's formal process as required by law.
