City proclaims March Problem Gambling Awareness Month; Veterans Strong events announced

Amy Wernicki, finance and fundraising director for Veterans Strong, said the organization received a grant from a statewide gambling-related fund to support work addressing problem gambling among veterans and the broader community. Wernicki asked the city to recognize March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month; Mayor Ellen Zapposassu read and presented a proclamation recognizing the designation and encouraging support for the National Council on Problem Gambling’s efforts.
Wernicki described resources Veterans Strong will offer, including training for community groups and a regional coalition role (Region 4) to coordinate prevention, treatment and recovery services. She also invited nominations for the Patriot’s Day honorees and shared logistics for the April ceremony.
