At its Jan. 28 meeting, the Hardin County governing body cleared routine consent items and heard an update on a new driver’s license appointment system.
Consent items approved included claims for payment dated Jan. 28, authorization of 'Rex Crosser' as Public Health Investigator (PHI) for Hardin County Solid Waste to allow him to complete required paperwork, and two change-of-status personnel actions in the county’s food service department: Carter Halsey (permanent part-time) and Faith Stevenson (part-time at $16.81 per hour). Board members said the hires are intended to reduce significant overtime in food services.
Speaker 5 briefed the board on a new appointment capability for driver’s licenses: individuals can make online appointments or use a kiosk to check in at the office; testing of the kiosk and appointment process will run for at least a year. Speaker 5 said drives and reexams are not yet available via appointment and that the motor-vehicle system is planned to transition later (staff mentioned a target of May 2028 for motor-vehicle appointment capability). A full new renewals software system for driver’s licenses was said to be planned for January 2027.
The board voted on these routine items without substantive debate and adjourned the meeting.
