Supervisors authorize listing of county’s 'Sheriff’s Garden' property for sale

The Page County Board of Supervisors voted to place a piece of county-owned land—commonly referred to in discussion as the "Sheriff's Garden"—on the market for sale.
Mister Lauderback described the parcel as approximately nine acres at Hawksbill and Furnace Road that has been in the county portfolio for many years and was at times considered for county facilities or recreation uses. He noted parts of the tract lie in a flood zone and that the county has not found a hotel or other commercial use that would proceed on the site. "I thought it might be a good time for us to unload it and see if somebody can put something on it that'll bring some revenue as well as maybe employment," he said.
A supervisor asked about current assessment and zoning; Mister Lauderback said the property is zoned commercial and that the county will determine the latest assessed value. The board moved and seconded to put the property on the market and to return any final decision on sale to the board for approval. Several members voted 'yes' during the roll call.
The motion directs staff to list the parcel and report back with market interest and valuation; it does not commit the county to accept any offer.
