Treasurer Taylor told the council the office received a certificate of excellence for the Cherokee Nation’s Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), a document the treasurer said the tribe has produced since 2012 and which has earned awards each year. "We did receive the certificate for excellence for our PAFR," Taylor said, and she singled out staff leads for the W‑2 processing and PAFR work.
Taylor also reported that roughly 8,000 W‑2 forms for the workforce had been compiled and printed and that online versions were available. She thanked staff members by name for their roles in completing the seasonal payroll paperwork.
Diane Kelly, who heads Career Services, said the chief asked her to redo Career Services’ website to make it more visually appealing and to better showcase programs. "We're gonna have a website that pops so that we've got some pictures," Kelly said, noting coordination with communications staff and partners such as Job Corps and the Home Builders Institute on apprenticeship and trades projects. She said some projects had been delayed by weather but that staff remained active on job‑development initiatives.
Anna Knight of Commerce presented her report and confirmed high demand for VITA tax assistance and predatory‑lending outreach. Knight described using consumer credit counseling and debt‑management referrals rather than offering consolidation loans in most cases. When asked whether Commerce would offer home loans for people building homes, Knight replied, "No. We're not doing any home loans."
Council members also noted a recent Chamber of Commerce award recognizing Commerce and Career Services for their work in the county. The reports drew no formal votes and the council moved on to consent and new business.
