City schedules dog‑park and skate‑park town halls, seeks youth input for skate design

Parks and recreation staff told the Rawlins City Council they will hold two community town halls next month to gather resident input on proposed dog-park and skate-park projects.
Jason, the parks and recreation presenter, said the dog-park town hall is set for Thursday, Jan. 27 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the recreation center multipurpose room. "What our main goal is we really really really wanna get community feedback on what they wanna see in a dog park because it's their dog park," Jason said, and staff emphasized that funding limits will shape what amenities are possible.
On the skate park, staff scheduled a town hall for Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Rollins Family Recreation Center and said they will host a pizza party for middle- and high-school students on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 4:00 p.m. to solicit youth input ahead of the public meeting. Staff said an above-ground modular skate park is the initial preference because it would be faster to install and less costly than an in-ground concrete park.
Council members asked staff to confirm whether a conversion of underused tennis courts at Key Club Park would conflict with regional events run by the school district; staff said they will follow up. No binding decisions or appropriations were made; staff said they will bring follow-up information to council after town-hall feedback.
