Bartlett swears in dispatch supervisor Shay Braddock as new police officer; scouts recognized

Mayor (name not specified) and Police Chief Jeff Cox presided over the ceremonial swearing-in of Shay (also spelled Shaye in the record) Braddock, a longtime communications supervisor who will attend the police academy and move into a sworn officer role.

Chief Cox introduced Braddock as a valued dispatcher who started the communications center and volunteered to transition to a patrol role. During the ceremony Braddock repeated the oath: "I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution and will obey the laws of the United States and the state of Tennessee and observe the provisions of the charter and the ordinances of the city of Bartlett and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of a Bartlett police officer," and was presented with a badge before she departs for the academy.

Earlier in the meeting the mayor recognized several Boy Scouts who had just arrived and invited any working on merit badges to step to the microphone; scouts including Wayne Ferguson (Troop 261), Dax Belknap (Troop 265), Devin Eaton (Troop 265), GT Polonsky (Troop 265), Caleb Harris (Troop 265) and Joshua Manns introduced themselves and the badges they were working on.

The mayor and board thanked Braddock and congratulated the scouts; Chief Cox and city officials said Braddock would be available to answer questions after the ceremony.
