Administrators presented a new CSA facility regulation to define designation and use of private spaces (single-occupancy family restrooms and exceptions) and a one-line addition to EHBAF (special-education cameras) stating recorded alleged incidents "shall be made available as required by law." District officials said most campuses already comply.
Socorro ISD administrators briefed trustees on two related policy items on Feb. 11: a TASB-recommended update to CSA local that adds language designating and governing private spaces in district facilities, and a targeted revision to policy EHBAF governing video recordings in special-education classrooms.
Amanda Martinez, coordinator for administrative services, told trustees the CSA regulation was added to align with TASB update 72 and to comply with state requirements (SB8 references were made in the briefing). The regulation defines single-occupancy private spaces (including family restrooms) and lists exceptions when staff of a different gender may enter (examples include custodial or maintenance work, medical or emergency assistance by licensed personnel, law enforcement duties, and allowing a child age 9 or younger to be accompanied by an adult). Martinez said the district currently has one campus (James Butler) with family restroom signage but that other campuses are already in compliance; the regulation will be posted to the district regulations link and shared with administrators.
Melissa Olivares, director of special education, described a single-line addition to EHBAF: "A video recording of an alleged incident shall be made available as required by law." She said the remainder of the policy remains unchanged. Trustees asked to see regulations under the policy section and to receive updates as regulations are posted.
No formal action was taken at the briefing; the items will move to the regular meeting or be posted for review per the administrative timeline.
