Maumee committee tables refinishing work for Croft Park slides pending capital review

Speaker 6 said SafeSlide estimated the new coating could allow the equipment to last “another end of 20 years” with good upkeep.
Committee members raised questions about cost and scheduling. Speaker 5 said staff are compiling a citywide capital list and had not yet assigned a dollar amount to the slides line item. The timeline from the vendor is tentative; Speaker 6 said the city has a placeholder on the vendor’s calendar around April 10 to avoid losing the slot.
Council members also discussed whether to remove one of the slides rather than repair both; Speaker 6 said removing a slide could cost more than refinishing and that staff would follow up with the pool manager to assess usage and guard requirements. Speaker 3 moved to table the item until the next committee meeting so council and staff could complete a capital review; the committee agreed to revisit the item at that time.
The committee did not take any formal procurement action at the meeting. Staff said they will return with cost details, staff recommendations and any follow-up information about slide use and potential phased work so the committee can make a funding decision.
