Board heard a student representative’s updates on sports, dual‑enrollment and mental‑health groups, and the superintendent highlighted a state CTE award, a successful AED drill and ongoing interventions after winter benchmark testing.
During the Feb. 9 meeting, the board received routine student and superintendent reports covering athletics, academics and school operations.
A student representative reported that as of Feb. 9 the boys basketball team was 12‑11 and the girls team had a record described as 9‑14; dual‑enrollment classes for the new semester have begun, clubs are holding events and prom is scheduled for April 11. The student also noted a student‑led mental‑health support group that works with HOSA to promote awareness.
Superintendent Billy reported that Carrie Regalado, the district CTE director and assistant principal, received the West Tennessee regional CTE pioneer award and a state CTE pioneer award for directors with fewer than five years’ service. Billy praised the welding, agriculture and HOSA programs and credited teachers and students for recent successes.
On operations, the superintendent said the district completed a code‑blue AED drill in which the emergency response team arrived within 36 seconds. He reported that winter benchmark testing showed less growth than hoped and that staff will use early‑release days and targeted interventions with special‑education teachers and EAs to address gaps. The board acknowledged ongoing efforts and thanked staff for the work.
