Glendale Heights collects 'hundreds' of cards for 'Valentines for Veterans' program

At the Feb. 5 Village Board meeting, recreation supervisor Jessica Marasich presented the village’s 'Valentines for Veterans' program and said the village received hundreds of cards from local schools and community groups to be sent to veterans in Illinois homes and VA hospitals.
Marasich said participating groups included Markwood School District 15, Queen Bee School District 16, Glenbard District 87, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale Heights, cub scouts and girl scouts, Glendale Heights preschool and the Linda Jackson Center. She noted that Glenbard North students produced a very large card; multiple schools sent cards, and "we received hundreds of cards," she said.
Marasich said the cards will be distributed to Illinois veterans homes including LaSalle, Anna, Quincy, Manteno, and VA facilities such as Edward Hines, Jesse Brown, Marion VA Medical Center and Captain James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center. The mayor and trustees read sample cards aloud during the meeting.
The presentation emphasized community participation and cross-generational involvement; no board action was required. Residents who wish to participate or learn more were directed to village recreation channels and the Linda Jackson Center.
