The DeSoto Parish Police Jury adopted a resolution approving the operating revenue and expenditure budget for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2025, and ending Dec. 31, 2025, after a motion by Mrs. Simpson and a second from Mr. Layton.
Following the vote, the jury authorized the president to sign a second resolution allowing short‑term investments of excess cash on hand, including CDs and money‑market instruments with 3–6 month terms. Parish Treasurer reported the county had previously moved $3,000,000 into short‑term investments earning about 4.6% and said monthly updates will be provided to the jury.
In a monthly financial briefing, the treasurer reported November figures: general fund revenues of about $8,000,000 and expenses of roughly $7,800,000; the road fund recorded $13,900,000 in revenues but sales-tax collections remained approximately 14% below projections. The treasurer noted public‑works expenditures at 93% and capital outlay at 16% year‑to‑date.
The jury also established a disaster recovery fund that currently holds $409,003.55 returned from the state for tropical‑storm related expenses, and discussed a plan to move available cash into short‑term instruments while retaining liquidity to meet obligations.
What happens next: Treasurer said transfers and monthly reporting on interest yields will appear in future financial statements. The budget resolution passed by voice vote during the meeting.
