The DeSoto Parish Police Jury held officer elections and several administrative votes during its Jan. 6 meeting. The jury confirmed Greg Baker as vice president and elected Ernie L. Jones as president for 2025 after nominations and roll‑call voting.
Members offered brief remarks thanking outgoing officers. The jury approved a series of resolutions that authorize the president to sign leases, agreements and contracts approved by the police jury, to submit grant applications (including LGAP for a KCS subdivision sewer project and a CWEP/GRAM application for East Desoto Water) and to canvass special‑election returns for a Dec. 7, 2024 sales‑tax rededication.
The body also considered planning‑commission appointments following a resignation. The committee recommendation to appoint Latarsha (Latasha) Shelton was discussed along with alternate nominations (Matthew Raines, Kathy Wills and Martha Rains); jurors debated the proper nomination procedure and voted to proceed with the committee’s recommendation following procedural clarification. The jury additionally authorized the administrator to sign agreements with contract haulers.
Several motions were recorded as carried. On adjournment the newly elected president thanked jurors for the confidence to serve in 2025.
