Auburn students honored for community service: EMT volunteer Panos and Project 351 ambassador Ali

The Auburn School Committee on Feb. 11 recognized two students for community service. Panayotis “Panos” Paneros was lauded for volunteering as an emergency medical technician on the sidelines of school events and with the Auburn Fire Department; a short video from WCEB highlighted his work and commitment to pursuing a career in health care.
Allison “Ali” Hanscomb, Auburn Middle School’s Project 351 ambassador, told the committee about a statewide youth leadership service day in Boston in which her team volunteered at La Collaborativa in Chelsea. She said her spring service project at the middle school will be a Cradles to Crayons clothing drive collecting toddlers’ and children’s clothing; she told members the experience motivated her and her team and described plans to involve the school community. "We made over 2,000 hygiene kits for anyone in need," she said, describing the launch-day work in Boston.
The recognitions were presented as part of the superintendent’s student-spotlight segment. Committee members praised both students’ work and encouraged them to share information about upcoming service activities so staff can help publicize them.
