Board communications staff Jason Loom introduced the students and assistant principal Cole, and Coach Brenna Mackey told trustees she is a 2024 Harlem graduate who played at the collegiate level and called the program “an amazing opportunity” for girls who previously had limited access to football. Mackey said the team performed during the halftime show at Soldier Field and met some professional players, and she described the experience as setting a standard for the program’s future.
Board members noted the district has about 26 middle‑school girls interested in the sport, praised the Rock Park District for new turf and warmup facilities, and wished the students success as practice begins. President Sterling and other trustees thanked the coach and students and agreed to photograph the group with the board after the recognition.
Next steps: board members highlighted upcoming committee meetings and said they will continue to support extracurricular programs that broaden opportunities for students.
